Sequel to DYING BREED
Surfing is not for the weak-hearted – Especially if it is in the pursuit of ‘waves of consequence.’ Medford Haley has made his living shaping surfboards for surfers who’s mission it is to conquer them and they are a breed of their own.
Enter: Derek Deklan aka Humphry Dumfries, surfer, political science student, Vietnam Vet and the mercenary that put a couple of slugs in murderous-thug dictator Idi Amin’s arse and a couple more in his shoulder before being driven-off by his minders and forced into hiding with a million-dollar price on his head and ends up in the deep forests of the Pacific North West; where Derek breaks the cardinal rule for Alpha-male rolling-stones and acquires some baggage in the form of an adolescent Sasquatch’m he calls Max.
Five-years on: Max is now nearly seven-feet tall, four-hundred pounds and beginning to long for his own kind. Medford and his wife Honey leave their subtropical home in Noosa and accompany Derek to the Olympic Forest in Washington to re-unite him with his ‘people, only to discover that there is a million-dollar bounty on a ‘Big-Foot’ any ‘Big-foot’ dead or alive. That makes Derek and Max an attractive 2-for-1 package for redneck bounty-hunter Jeubal ‘Mad-dog’ Murdoch and his goons.
Set in the mysterious, shadowy forests of the Pacific North West: Derek and Medford play a dangerous game of hide and seek with an armed and dangerous adversary. They will be joined in their quest by Grace, a Quileute shaman and Quileute elder and boat builder, Oscar Otter’s Son who quickly inform them of Beginning of the End Times prophesy associated with man’s meeting with the Sasquatch’m.
“It was the thing of my worst nightmares. An ominous, dark, cloudy world of chaos and mindless killing. The putrid, fetid, sickly-stench of rotting bodies, the air thick with choking black smoke. And not just here, cities smouldering beneath darkened, discoloured skies. A place where the land and sea has risen up and swallowed the unwary – Where rivers run backwards and whatever order we’ve ever known is gone, replaced with splintered discordant disorder of nothingness. It is the sort of madness where the wildness that resides somewhere in us all is suddenly loosed on what remains of this already damaged place. And bereft of the hope, knowledge or any sense of what is right that’d formally been the mortar that held us together has dissolved and we disintegrate back into the vapours of time.”
Auntie Grace – Quileute Shaman
